This replica was created by Kathleen M. Carroll, a Civil War reenactor, whose role is of a Daughter of Charity who served as a nurse - particularly at the medical facility near Gettysburg. The Daughters were very active in helping the war wounded soldiers. Kathleen researched the habit very carefully - with a lot of help from a sister in the archives at Emmitsburg, and she sewed an exact replica which she wears for her reenacting. She knows the ins and outs of the cornette (head covering), and is very knowledgable, if not one of the current authorities, about the habit. Museum of Virginia Catholic History.
