A Common Word

Another effort at dialogue and peace. Very interesting to read the comments of leaders of different faiths, among them many highly respected Cardinals of our faith. This is an open letter written by Islamic Clerics that begins:

Muslims and Christians together make up well over half of the world’s
population. Without peace and justice between these two religious communities, there can be no meaningful peace in the world. The future of the world depends on peace between Muslims and Christians.

The basis for this peace and understanding already exists. It is part of
the very foundational principles of both faiths: love of the One God, and love of the neighbour. These principles are found over and over again in the sacred texts of Islam and Christianity. The Unity of God, the necessity of love for Him, and the necessity of love of the neighbour is thus the common ground between Islam and Christianity.

I humbly submit that Mary, Mother of Jesus, is a third, and perhaps most powerful, source of unity between Muslim and Christian faiths. God bless the clerics who are completely capable of using "words" to look for unity and peace. We need them to work this through for us. In the meanwhile, however, the Blessed Mother needs only our whispered prayers. These prayers offered in unity in Mary's House at Ephesus where Christians and Muslims pray peacefully side by side and honor Mary are unmatched in power before the Throne of the One True God. Thank you Sr. Marie, Foundress of Mary's House, for encouraging the finding of Mary's House, and then restoring it and preserving it for all God's Children. Please lead us in prayers for peace. Amen.

I love how the open letter ends:

Wal-SalaamuAlaykum,
Pax Vobiscum.
