Mass at Mary's House for the Feast of the Assumption

TurkishPress.com reports today, Monday, August 16, 2010 in an article entitled Many Christians Attend Mass in House of Mother Mary in Selcuk :

Numerous Christians attended a religious ceremony in the House of Mother Mary in Selcuk town of western province of Izmir on Sunday.

Archbishop of Izmir Ruggero Franceschini conducted the service marking the Assumption of Mother Mary.

Mother Mary's House is a Christian and Muslim shrine located on Bulbuldagi (Mount Nightingale) in the vicinity of Ephesus, in modern-day Turkey (7 km from Selcuk). It is believed by many that Mary was taken to this stone house by Saint John and lived there until her Assumption (according to Catholic doctrine). Paul VI was the first pope to visit this place in the 1960's. Later, in the 1980's, during his visit, Pope John-Paul II declared the Shrine of Virgin Mary has a pilgrimage place for Christians. It is also visited by Muslims who recognize Mary as the mother of one of their prophets.
