Our Lady of Mount Carmel

On July 16, the Church will celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, which commemorates the appearance of the Blessed Virgin Mary to St. Simon Stock on July 16, 1251. During the vision, the Blessed Virgin revealed to him the Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, popularly known as the "Brown Scapular." What has this to do with Sr. Marie?

Our Lady of Mount Carmel is very special in the story of the opening of the Cause of Servant of God, Sr. Marie de Mandat Grancey.  In Kensington, London there is a beautiful Church dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St. Simon Stock which is in the care of the Discalced Carmelite Friars who have been in Kensington since 1862.  Inspired by the Holy Spirit and after much prayer, Father Ignatius Michael Mc Donnell (Sept. 22 1915-April 25, 2004), a Carmelite priest from Ireland, with Erin von Uffel, composed the prayer you now find on the Sr. Marie Prayer Card.  The Imprimatur for this prayer was given on October 6, 2004, by the Archbishop of Izmir (Smyrna), Turkey, Giuseppe G. Bernardini, O.F.M., Cap.

Please join in a Novena of thanksgiving to Our Lady of Mount Carmel for our Sr. Marie Prayer and for all the favors granted by God to the faithful through the intercession of Sr. Marie under the protection of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.  Here is a Prayer to Our Lady of Mount Carmel. (To end the novena on the day before the feast, begin praying the Prayer to Our Lady of Mount Carmel on July 7.) This prayer is a particularly popular one and the Novena is known to be powerful.

Wear your Brown Scapular!
