As I was reading the short biography of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini in my Magnificat this morning on her Feast Day I was struck by the many similarities between her life and that of Sister Marie. They were contemporaries in His-story and both are dedicated women of the Church who showed their love for God by loving His children.
Mother Cabrini was born in 1850 in Italy into a wealthy family of cherry tree farmers; Sister Marie in 1837 in France into nobility. Mother Cabrini died in 1917; Sister Marie in 1915. Contemporaries. Both responded to Christ's call and became His brides, Frances Cabrini taking her vows in 1877, and Sister Marie taking the veil in 1858 then first vows in 1862. They then answered the call of Pope Leo XIII to become missionaries in foreign lands, Mother Cabrini to America in 1889 and Sister Marie to Turkey in 1886. Both of these holy women of God spent themselves running schools, hospitals and orphanages. Mother Cabrini is Foundress of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on November 14; Sister Marie acquires Mary's House in Ephesus, Turkey on November 15 and is eventually officially recognized as Foundress of Mary's House by the Church.
Today the Cabrini Mission Foundation advances St. Frances Xavier Cabrini's mission and legacy of healing, teaching, and caring around the world.
Today the Sister Marie de Mandat-Grancey Foundation advances the Cause for Sister Marie and her mission and legacy of Mary's House, Panaya Kapulu, Doorway to the Virgin, a Catholic Shrine in a Muslim country, a singular place of Marian devotion across religious and cultural lines, where God's children receive not only gifts of healing, but the hope for peace with their brothers and sisters in God's family.
Mother Cabrini, pray for us.
Sister Marie, pray for us.

" I am not a priest and cannot bless them, but all that the heart of a mother can ask of God for her children, I ask of Him and will never cease to ask Him." ~ Sister Marie
